Stephen Fisher Shino Vase
1990s
Sold 1/21/2022
Signed stoneware studio pottery vase with white shino style glaze. Made in 1999 by Idaho potter Stephen Fisher. The main characteristic of shino glaze is of a satin-like white color, occasionally with bright, red – orange or black spotting, a result of carbon trapping in the firing process. Usually in firing a Shino glaze, the potter utilizes a wood-fired anagama kiln. Shino firing tends to use lower temperatures in comparison to celadon and porcelain firing, but fires for a longer period of time with a slow cooling process.
Marked “S Fisher 1999”. 4 ½” tall, 4 ¼” width, 2 ½” depth. In excellent condition with non chips, scratches, cracks, crazing or other signs of wear.
