Victor Insulator Coffee Mugs

1940s
Sold
Two off-white porcelain coffee cups with D-shaped handles. The cups are very thick and heavy for their size and keep a small cup of coffee warm for a long time. The mugs were manufactured by Victor Insulators. During WWII the electrical insulator company used the same strong and thick porcelain they used for insulators to produce mugs for the military. Eventually, after the war, they began producing them commercially. Due to the durability and insulating properties of the mugs they became popular in diners, churches, schools and other institutions. Production ended in the late 1980’s.
The mugs are in good condition with some wear along the lip, consistent with age and use. 6 fluid ounces. Approximately 3 3/8 inches in diameter by 3 1/2 inches tall.
