Available through eBay or Etsy.

Red bodied clay vessel with a bulbous, conical body tapering into a small neck supported by an applied handle. The vessel is decorated with a white slip and further decorated by a feathered slip of triangles and bands of red and green. A garland of slip leaves circle around the top of the vessel. The jug is a traditional honey jug from Bulgaria, decorated in the Troyan style. The pottery style practiced today began in the 19th century based on Slavic and Thracian patterns. The terra cotta clay from the region has a distinct red color that turns Bulgarian pottery into a deep reddish brown once fired. The style is said to be different based on the different craftspeople who make it by hand, with each having distinct pattern designs and colors they prefer.

Approximately 13 inches tall, 8 inches at the widest point, 1 ½ inches at the mouth, 4 inches at the bottom. Condition is good, with signs of heavy use consistent with age and purpose. A large patch was added on the bottom part of the vessel. Additionally, there are chips and areas of loss throughout the piece. No cracks or crazing.
