White, bisqueware ceramic lamp with textured decoration. The shape is a stylized stick-neck vase decorated with knockdown-like texture. The piece is further highlighted with gold paint and accented with an orange and brown band at the base of the neck. The lampshade is a textured off-white fiberglass parchment contrasted with white paint. The shade is banded on top and bottom with a pinky-beige ribbon edging. The finial is a simple chromed-plastic cap.
The lamp has a very mid-century, organic towards brutalist feel. The matte surface of the bisque body heightens the contrast of the shadows with the highlights of the gold paint. The rigid, alternating lines and airbrushed band of orange and brown are the perfect foil for the free-form texture of the lamp neck. The two-tone, pebbled lampshade adds a final dimension. The lampshade is made from fiberglass which has molded texture and has also been brushed with white paint to strengthen the connection between lamp and base. It’s clear that this is the original lampshade for the lamp. It gives a beautiful warm, dappled glow in a room.
Condition is very good. Ceramic lamp base has no chips, cracks, crazing, scratches, stains or other damage or blemishes. Lampshade is true and round. Fiberglass parchment is in good condition with no significant tears, burns, creases, cracks. Ribbon edging is in good condition with no tears, rips or fraying. There is a stain on about ½ inch of the base of ribbon edging (see photos.) No other stains or signs of wear. The lamp has a push-button style socket which fits a normal medium-base lightbulb. The lamp’s electrical components are in good-working condition. The cord is original, but in good shape with no cracks or other damage.
Lamp with shade is 28 inches from base to top of shade. Shade is 14 inches in diameter.
Lamp without shade is 25 inches from base to top of finial.
Ceramic lamp base is 14 ½ inches tall, 6 inches in diameter at widest part of base.
Harp is 8 inches tall.
Cord is 52 inches long.
