Surrealist Ceramic Wall Art Naïve Student Studio Pottery Signed
Slab-built, wall-art piece. The piece is incised, surrealist depiction of a figure, potentially Michelangelo’s David, surrounded by waves in clear reference to Hokusai’s Great Wave. The decoration contrasts the unglazed clay with the body’s black glaze. The piece appears to have been made by a student, however the naïve nature adds to its charm. Signed on reverse “Abby Owen N. 24 P. 5” and has two holes in the back for hanging.
