Morgantown ‘Tijuana’ Martini Pitcher

1940s
Sold
Green glass martini or juice pitcher with applied, pulled handle. The form has a slightly undulating, crinkled texture giving it a very organic and rustic feel. The ‘Crinkle’ pattern was produced by Morgantown in West Virginia from the 1930’s into the 1960’s. The ‘Tijuana’ martini Pitcher was initially marketed in the 1940’s to capture the zeitgeist for travel throughout Latin America. The bright colors and unrefined finishing were reminiscent of artisanal glassware being produced in rural Mexico and beyond.
The pitcher is in excellent condition with no chips, scratches cracks or crazing. There is some small specks of what appears to be paint on the handle. I haven’t been able to remove it, but it doesn’t effect the usability of the piece. The pitcher is approximately 6 1/2 inches tall and holds 34 ounces.
